At iFixed we get asked frequently if we have any tips for protecting phones from further damage, and we have to admit that your best bet is a tempered glass screen protector! These new protectors have recently emerged on the technological market with the promise of keeping your iPhone screen from harm.

Against plastic screen protectors, tempered glass protectors are thicker, tougher, and generally easier to install. Plastic protectors are on average 0.1mm thick, whilst the glass protectors are usually around 0.3-0.5mm thick, meaning that there is plenty more protection working to preserve your iPhone or smart phone screen. This also means that your tempered glass screen protector is more sturdy and less likely to scratch than the generic plastic protector.

Most smartphones today have Gorilla Glass or other scratch-resistant screens, and adding a plastic screen usually affects the ease of use of the touch-screen, however the tempered glass screen protectors feel much more like the original screen and the feel of the phone is not as affected. The look of the phone is slightly altered with tempered glass as the extra 0.5mm may cause the phone to look a tad bulkier than the original screen, but in our opinion, this small setback is worth the protection that it gives to your phone.

Obviously these screens are not invincible and can still become scratched or cracked over time or if badly dropped, but it is much more cost-effective to replace the tempered glass than the original phone screen. It is also worth noting that installing a tempered glass screen protector should not improvise for a broken screen. If your screen is broken then get booked in with us straight away to prevent any further damage to your iPhone or other smartphone.
